The Flight Path Flyers simulator training program is at the heart of Flight Path’s educational mission. As chief instructor for many years, Doug Happ was key to the success and popularity that the program enjoyed with our students and the museum’s friends and supporters. Doug was former chief pilot for the Flying Tiger Line and director of Flight Operations for Federal Express. Doug’s friend and teaching assistant Gregg Low also devoted many hours to the Flight Path Flyers program and was another important reason its success.
As most of you know, Doug and Gregg were killed on November 30 aboard Doug’s Arion Lightning aircraft when it crashed at Torrance Airport. Doug and Gregg no longer were active in the Flight Path Flyers program but they were an enduring part of the program’s success story and members of Flight Path’s extended family. We will miss them terribly and send our heartfelt condolences to their relatives and friends. Doug’s wife Marie Happ was a longtime Airport Guide at LAWA and Flight Path.
Pictured “on the job” is Doug with a student during a Flight Path Flyers graduation ceremony, and Gregg supervising a flight simulator lesson. We will be forever grateful for all that Doug and Gregg did for Flight Path and for so many promising young students.
